Councilman Keith Turman
Background: Keith was born in Elberton County GA, but moved to Royston at an early age and has made Royston his home for the past 40 plus years. He’s married to the love of his life (LaShona) and he’s the proud father of two wonderful children, O’Neal and Alexus and the proud grandfather of Lori Alexandra. Keith attended Franklin County High School and received his GED from North GA Tech. He worked for the local hospital organization approximately 20 years, where he spent the last 13 years with the company in upper management. Today, Keith is a successful businessman himself: He owns Turman Carpet & Cleaning Service, Inc., a business he and his wife built from scratch.
Keith has been very active in his community, where he’s served as a member of the Downtown Development Authority, Royston Fire Department, board member for Franklin County Recreation Department, board of Directors for Georgia Municipal Associates, and District Two President. Keith is a graduate of Leadership Franklin, Class of 99, which inspired him to run for City Council. On November 2, 1999 Keith made History by becoming the first African American elected to Royston City Council. He’s served as Mayor Pro-Tem eight years during his tenure on the council. Keith has received over 245 training hours in local government from the University of Georgia Carl Vinson institute of Government. Keith is an active member of Rucker’s Grove Baptist Church, and in his spare time he enjoys cooking BBQ.
